Unity State, South Sudan. There are no road connections to Bentiu, recent flooding has left the northern parts of South Sudan devastated and Unity State has been hit particularly hard, as pictured here, all humanitarian aid must be airlifted in. 27 May 2022.
Bentiu, South Sudan. The refugee settlement at Bentiu. There are over 300,000 refugees stranded here. With the devastating recent flooding, there are no road connections to Bentiu, and the camp itself is in grave danger of being completely overrun by water. UNMISS Army Engineers from Pakistan work around the clock to construct barriers to prevent the settlement and the only airfield/connection to the outside world from being flooded. The new government in South Sudan struggles with corruption, internal conflict, widespread flooding, and acute famine. Chad hosts more than one million forcibly displaced people, including 580,000 refugees from conflicts in neighbouring Sudan, the Central African Republic and Cameroon. More than 125,000 refugees and asylum seekers from the Central African Republic have fled to Chad escaping different waves of violence since 2005.
The Kutupalong and Nayapara camps in Cox's Bazar, on the southeastern tip of Bangladesh, are plagued by violence and dwindling funding.
